Fifth Annual Assembly of the Association of Election Officials in BiH

On March 27, 2004, the Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AEOBIH) held its Fifth Annual Assembly.

Besides selection of the Association bodies, one of the most important aims of this Assembly was determination of the role of the Association referring to the elections, which will be held in October 2004.

Taking into consideration the fact and the role of the AEOBiH that gathers members of the Municipal Election Commissions (MEC) from the whole BiH, and the estimation that the Association has given significant contribution in quality preparation of previous elections, membership of this nongovernmental organization think that AEOBiH may give contribution and support to the Election Commission of BiH for the elections, which are to be held in October 2004, within its possibilities, in a couple of ways:

* Through involvement of the AEOBiH Legal Council in the work on changes and amendments of the Election Law of BiH and sub-regulation acts.
* Through involvement of members in observation electoral activities, in order to evaluate work of the electoral bodies in impartial way.
* Through involvement of the Association members in activities of the Counting Center in accordance with the Election Commission.
* Through engagement of people in order to update voter registers.
* Through engagement of certain number of the trainers of polling station committees, who were earlier engaged in the training and whose work was evaluated with the high rates. Referring to that, and taking into consideration the fact that some MECs are not in possibility to conduct training of polling station committees, there is possibility for MECs, which have planned and allocated funds for the training of Polling Station Committees, to engage the trainers of Polling Station Committees through the Association. It is important to emphasize that their engagement could facilitate the work of MECs a lot, which could dedicate more attention to other, numerous and important tasks that they have.
