PRESS RELEASE No 07/2001 (Sarajevo, September 10, 2001)

AEOBiH HOLDS BRANCH ASSEMBLY MEETINGS

Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AEOBiH) calls for urgent implementation of tasks foreseen by the recently adopted BiH Election Law. In order to begin with preparations for General Elections 2002 it is essential to initiate creation of election bodies on all levels and to adopt relevant executive acts - particularly those that regulate funding of election bodies and the voter registration process. In the process of implementation of these activities AEOBiH is prepared to offer assistance to election bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina on all levels.

From September 4-7 AEOBiH held branch assembly meetings on Bjelasnica, in Banja Luka, Tuzla, and Citluk. A total of 198 election officials from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended these meetings. New regional bodies were elected and candidates were delegated to the central AEOBiH bodies. Regional assemblies paved the way for the AEOBiH Annual Conference which will be held from 7-9 December at Hotel "Holiday Inn" in Sarajevo.

At the regional assembly meetings workshops were held which dealt with work plans and budgets of the municipal election commissions (MEC) for the coming year 2002. It was concluded that MECs should urgently submit their 2002 work plans and budgets to the appropriate municipal departments. Association of Election Officials in BiH also calls for adoption of systematic solutions to the problem of funding of election bodies and implementation of election activities.
